为满足降低系统成本的要求，新器件配置了灵活的存储控制器，支持外置SRAM、闪存组合，并可选择单倍数据速率（SDR）、双倍数据速率（DDR），或移动双倍数据速率（M-DDR）同步动态随机存储器（SDRAM）。MCF5207与MCF5208集成标准ColdFire通信外设，包括三个用于中距离及长途连接的通用异步收/发器（UART），供系统内部与连接外设进行通信的内部集成电路(I2C)和队列式串行外设接口（QSPI）。此外，MCF5208还配有10/100高速以太网控制器。最后，两种器件专门针对小功耗应用环境进行了优化，配有多种小功耗模式和低频时钟除法器。
